Call For Volunteers: Chemo Angels
As couponers, we get lots of things free that are greater quantities than our families need. A terrific organization that can use those items is Chemo Angels. I've been an angel with them for about 1 year and it makes your heart feel super good!
I just got an e-mail that they are low on volunteers and are putting out a call for new ones.
Remember this is a commitment for the length of your patient's chemo treatment. You're required to send something to your patient each week. Things I've sent in the past include candy, tea, nail polish/manicure supplies, body wash/lotion, body splashes, pet treats for my patient who is a dog owner, fancy soaps, snacks, etc. Most of the things I send to my patient are things I've gotten as freebies from my coupon adventures. Chemo Angels has each patient fill out a data sheet so that you can have a starting point for what they like and don't like.
You will have to pay to ship the items but I use a lot of flat rate boxes to keep the cost low.
Here's how it works...
1) You register with Chemo Angels. It will take a few weeks to get a chemo patient, so hang tight. :) This organiztion
2) Once you get a patient you will need to begin sending them things once a week. I typically send a small note and a small gift, with larger packages every few weeks.
3) You'll keep this up till the patient's chemo is over. The patient has no obligation during this, so you may never hear anything from your patient. I've been fortunate enough that I have heard from both assignments I've had.
